Industry Submission Guidelines

We are now seeking participants for two different events which will take place on Industry Day.

Industry Cases #

Cases for the industry track should address PD outside an academic context and highlight new innovative approaches that are being developed to address the challenges and opportunities for embedding PD in commercial, non-profit and governmental organisations.

We invite you to explore what participation can and needs to mean in today’s design contexts. While current ‘best practice’ in many areas of interactive technology design now at least pays lip service to people’s participation, we are interested in learning more about how participation being negotiated and defined, and by whom.

Those interested in participating should submit an extended abstract of no more than 2 pages that addresses the following:

  • An overview of the case, including the problem addressed, the approach taken, and the organisational context of the project, including who participated and in what capacity.
  • The benefits, challenges, and outcomes from the application of PD;
  • Concrete lessons for others who are interested in applying PD in their organisations.

(see below for details of how to submit your proposal)

PDC Pitchfest applications: #

Representatives from not-for-profit and academic sectors are invited to “pitch” design ideas in a short, lively format.  This is an opportunity to present participatory design research, concepts and ideas to a panel of commercial, non-profit and governmental organization representatives.

PDC Pitch Fest will allow representatives from industry an opportunity to learn about research opportunities which could become an asset to their organizations and which could lead to design participation partnerships. It is also an opportunity for PD practitioners to workshop ideas and gain feedback and input from new perspectives.

Applicants should prepare a 1 page project overview sheet that can be circulated in advance of your pitches to audience members and judges, which contains the following information:

  • The design/development/implementation project you are pitching (end product);
  • An indication of who your “participants” are that are working with you on the project;
  • Work undertaken to date;
  • What you need in terms of resources (e.g., programming time, platform devices, access to participants etc.), cash or in-kind contributions to move their ideas forward;
  • What the pitcher has to offer to a company interested in working with them.

The winner will receive a cash prize intended to help further their research partnership efforts.
